In this article we'll outline how to resubscribe a contact that has unsubscribed and wants to receive email again from the church. Remember always to get consent from a contact before resubscribing them.

In the message statistics you can see if some one has unsubscribed from all emails or just a specific list.



How to resubscribe a contact

There are three ways of unsubscribing from a messages and there are three different ways of resubscribing them again. This is how you figure out which of the three options is the case: 

first you activate these two columns in People: 

Unsubscribed email
E-mail status

Now search for the contact by typing name or email address into the search field.

If it says “no” in Unsubscribed email and “active” in Email status, but it says “Unsubscribed from list” in the message statistics, then go to option 1
If it says “yes” in Unsubscribed email, then go to option 2
If it says anything other than “active” (in this case “unsub”) in Email status, then go to option 3

**REMEMBER to get confirmation from the contact that they would like to subscribe again, before performing any of the below three options.**

1. Unsubscribe from list by clicking on “Unsubscribe” in the newsletter footer

This contact has unsubscribed from a list by clicking on “Unsubscribe” in the footer of the newsletter. Then the contact chose “I don’t want to receive similar e-mails.” In the message statistics you can see, if a contact has unsubscribed from a list. In the "Status" column it will say "Unsubscribed from this list."



To resubscribe the contact to the list, click on the contact name or email in the statistics to open their profil. The click on the tab "Settings." Here you can see a list of which lists this contact has unsubscribed from. To resubscribe, click on "Resubscribe" on the right hand side.



2. Unsubscribe from all emails from the church by clicking on “Unsubscribe” in the newsletter footer

Case: This contact has unsubscribed from all emails by clicking on “Unsubscribe” in the footer of the newsletter. Then the contact chose “I don’t want to receive any e-mails at all.” If a contact has unsubscribed from all email, it will say "Unsubscribed from all email" in the "Status" column in the message statistics. 



To resubscribe the contact to all email, click on the contact name or email to open their profile. Click on the tab "Settings" and then set a tick in the field "E-mail"



3. If it says “unsub” in "Email status" column

This contact has clicked on the automatic unsubscribe function in the email header. This is not added by ChurchDesk and ChurchDesk cannot remove it.



Now search for the contact by typing name or email address into the search field. In the column E-mail status is will say “unsub”



This is how you resubscribe the contact in this case. Click on the contact name or email to open their profile. Copy the email address and then remove it from the email field. Save the change, so the contact looks like it doesn't have an email address. Now edit again and insert the email address again and save. Now the email status of the contact is active and no longer unsubscribed.
