Create custom fields

With custom fields, you can adapt your contact data in ChurchDesk to your own needs. For example, you can store additional information such as “Membership number,” “Baptism date,” or even “Shoe size.”

These fields don’t just appear in your contacts – they can also be used in forms and are relevant for the Anniversaries app. This allows you to record data in a structured way and use it effectively.

Who can create custom fields?

To create custom fields, you need:

  • Access to Contacts, and
  • At least one admin role in ChurchDesk
  • Organisation Admins



How to create a custom field

  1. Open Contacts in ChurchDesk.
  2. Go to "Fields".
  3. Click on "Edit fields".
  4. Select the appropriate field type (see overview below) and drag it into the view on the right.
  5. An editing window will open – here you can enter the desired information.
  6. Save your changes.





Field types at a glance

General fields (usable for both contacts and forms):

  • Field group: Creates a section with a title and description. Used for thematically grouping fields.
  • Text field: Free text entry for short answers. Placeholder text can be added as an example.
  • Textbox: Like a text field, but for longer text entries.
  • Number: Free field for numerical input (e.g. “Number of participants”).
  • Checkbox: Simple tick box (e.g. “I have read the guidelines”).
  • Multiple checkboxes: Select multiple options from a predefined list.
  • Single choice: Select exactly one predefined option.
  • Dropdown: Choose from many options via a dropdown menu.

Life events:

  • Custom event: Adds your own events to the predefined ones, e.g. for the Anniversaries app.

Confidential information

Any field can be marked as “confidential information.”

These are only visible to users with the appropriate permissions and are marked with a small padlock icon in the field overview.



Using the fields

  • In Contacts: Record additional information and view it at any time.
  • In Forms: The fields are available as options and can be filled in by participants.
  • In the Anniversaries app: Especially relevant for custom life events.
