Linking family members in contact profiles

With the family function in ChurchDesk, you can easily keep track of family relationships between contacts. You'll find this section at the bottom of each contact's profile. Here, you can link existing contacts and assign a family relationship.

Connections like “Partner”, “Parent” or “Child” are clearly displayed – and you can click on the name to jump directly to the other contact. If two contacts share the same phone number, this will also be indicated automatically.

How to add family members

  1. Open the contact profile of the person in question.
  2. Scroll all the way down to the “Family” section.
  3. Click on “Edit”.
  4. or select “Add member”.
  5. In the top field, enter the name of an existing contact and select the correct person.
  6. Then choose the appropriate relationship:
    • Partner
    • Parent
    • Child
    • Sibling
    • Not specified (only shows the name, no label)

Once saved, the family member will appear at the bottom of the profile:

  • The name is clickable
  • The selected relationship is displayed
  • The reciprocal relationship is shown on the other contact’s profile (e.g. "Child" ↔ "Parent")

Good to know

  • Edit or delete: To remove a relationship, click Edit and then the trash can icon next to the name.
  • Only existing contacts can be linked – you can’t create a new contact here.
  • You need access to People to view or edit family connections.
  • Editing only in the browser: Family links can only be added or changed via the browser, not in the mobile app. The app only shows existing links.
  • Shared phone numbers: If two contacts share the same number, you’ll see a note saying “Shares phone number with contact” – helpful for sending messages.
